King Edward completes Operation Hydrate mission

HOUGHTON – If one thing is for sure, it’s that Operation Hydrate has certainly restored a decent amount of faith in humanity, bringing an endless array of hope to those who live in drought-stricken areas.

Being a school which is known for its giving nature, King Edward VII School, both high and preparatory divisions, jumped at the opportunity to take part in the charitable initiative.

“Our Operation Hydrate mission is complete,” said Lisa Slooten, spokesperson for the school.

She added that a human ‘water chain’ was created by the boy pupils to carry the 13 000 litres of water donated by their families to the Gift of the Givers Foundation’s truck waiting at the school on 5 February, ‘ensuring for much excitement and banter’.

Since Operation Hydrate commenced in January, the initiative has collected and delivered more than 6 million litres of fresh water to numerous drought-stricken parts of the country.

“Thank you Red Army for your support,” Slooten concluded. “This is the community spirit of Kes and ‘Red Ubuntu’ in action.”
