Concern grows over uncompleted excavation in Melrose

The excavation on Rose and Venus streets in Melrose remains an eyesore, creating concern from councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku and residents.

The broken state of the one-month-old excavation on the corner of Rose and Venus Streets in Melrose continues to concern Ward 74 councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku.

Last month, the excavation, which began as a leak in the road, resulted in a flood.

A reporter, who met with Kayser-Echeozonjoku on January 27 at the excavation site, was met with rubble and an exposed pipe.

“Last week Thursday I was here and saw some recyclers on the side of the excavation, which is a worry because if an excavation has not been repaired it is prone to vandalism and illegal dumping,” said Kayser-Echeozonjoku. “I will follow up with Johannesburg Water and reiterate the urgency of reinstating excavations after they have assessed them.”
