The excavation, which was made in February, continues to pose a danger, causing traffic on the road, while the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) team responsible for repairs is still engaged on another project.

A reporter visited the site for the second time on April 29, where she was met by collapsed JRA cones, growing weeds, and an orange net that was barely securing the excavation.

JRA’s head of operations Khaya Gqibitole explained: “The reinstatement has been included in the repair schedule, and we will provide an update once the team is available to commence work. We are also liaising with Johannesburg Water to finalise the quotation for the works.”

Ward 81 councillor Joanne Horwitz said the delay was unsatisfactory, and that she would be escalating the matter.
