Parkview Residents Association chair reflects on the highs and lows
The chair thanked the residents and volunteers who supported the PRA through their time, enthusiasm, and contributions to fundraising initiatives, infrastructure projects, and clean-up operations.
As we reflect on 2024 and look toward the future, Parkview Residents Association (PRA) chair Philanie Jooste wishes the residents, businesses, and visitors of Parkview and Greenside East a safe and restful holiday season.
“Bridget Steer has been a stalwart in helping us resolve the countless issues we face with the city’s service delivery. Our new councillor, Kyle Jacobs ably stepped up and I look forward to a fruitful working relationship with him,” she noted.
The chair thanked the residents and volunteers who supported the PRA through their time, enthusiasm, and contributions to fundraising initiatives, infrastructure projects, and clean-up operations. They ensured that the ‘village in the city’ was the best place to live in Jozi, she said.

Joosted added that among the highlights this year for the PRA was their first Spring Run at the Parkview Golf Course, sponsored by Dial a Nerd.
“Our Halloween event, kindly sponsored by Pam Golding Properties, was a resounding success. It has been an institution for decades and residents once again enacted the spirit of our suburbs by volunteering, showing up, and having Halloween buckets full of fun.”
She noted that the PRA took a significant step toward upgrading George Hay Park by completing the fencing on the St Columba’s Presbyterian Church side of the park.
Jooste noted that as residents of Johannesburg, the community faces crumbling infrastructure and erratic service delivery.

“This means residents’ associations are increasingly important in advocating on everyone’s behalf to hold officials accountable and maintain our suburbs. It is a challenge so large and beyond our ambit, that we must continuously consider innovative ways of dealing with the city’s shortcomings.”
She added that for residents’ associations to function, residents need to support them by paying their annual fees, volunteering at fundraising events, and assisting in resolving problems.
“As we approach a new year, I encourage those who live in Parkview and Greenside East to be the change you want to see,” she concluded.
