Mixed start for Old Eds bowlers

HOUGHTON – The Old Edwardian Society’s women’s 1st and men’s 3rd teams were the only winners at the first weekend of the Johannesburg Bowls Association league.

An influx of new members means the society will now field four men’s and two women’s teams every Saturday.

The society’s Mike Dunk said the women’s 1st team beat Kensington, dropping one point. Glynnis Harris collected a full house five, which got their campaign off to the best possible start.

“The men’s 3rd team beat Ridge Park 15-3, with the two fours skipped by Gerhard Ratzer and Dennis Sparks, who both got the maximum five points,” said Dunk.

However, the picture was not as rosy elsewhere.

“The men’s 1st team gleaned six points in their match against Auckland Park, with Roy Lampert contributing four of those points. The men’s 2nd could only manage two points against Pirates, while the 4th team came away from Linden with seven points,” said Dunk.

The women’s 2nd team narrowly lost to Ridge Park by three shots, with Ruth Skuy peeling her game.
