Good test for Dusi

With the toughest endurance river canoe marathon, the Dusi taking place soon, the training race held at Homestead Dam was well supported by Gauteng canoeists and the municipality.

Marco Magni from Rosebank and Richard Rose from Emmarentia teamed up for the race to finish impressively in eleventh place overall in 1:53 and third in the sub- veteran age group. The two said they were confident of having a successful Dusi.

Ekurhuleni Municipality provided prizes for the winners and food for the hard working paddlers who finished the 22km paddle. There was two portages where paddlers had to take their canoes out of the water and run a couple of kilometres as part of the endurance river race training.

More than 100 youths representing various schools around Gauteng participated in a canoe race after the main event with many competing for the first time.
