Old Eds boat club finishes season on high
The newly resuscitated boat club at Old Eds ended their first full season back on the water on a high at the SA Championships, following their success at the Buffalo Regatta.
At the Buffalo, held for the 127th time in East London – making it the oldest sporting event in the country – there were 14 rowers from the club, and they excelled. The men recorded wins in the Mens A2-, A4+, B8+ and the C1 categories.
In the SA Championships on Roodeplaat Dam, which brought the season to an end, the ladies picked up a winners medal in the A2- class whilst the men recorded wins in the B8+, B4-, B2 and also in the C8+ which they edged out their rivals by a mere 0.17 seconds.
These results were complimented by silver medals in the Mens A4-, A4+ and LA1X, and a bronze in the A2-. This ensured that the club was the most successful non-University club at the championships. “That is a tremendous achievement for the club” said Mike Dunk, communications officer for the society. “Especially as this is their first full season back in competitive rowing.”
The crews will now embark on their winter training schedule in preparation for the Head of the Charles Regatta to be held in Boston, USA, in October.
