Jr. NBA League Celebrates Successful 2024 Season in Bryanston
Tinyiko Maseko, Omphemetse Gasietsiwe shine as Jr. NBA MVPs in Bryanston.
The excitement was palpable at Michael Mount Waldorf School as the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA League Johannesburg Finals wrapped up another thrilling season.
Hosted by NBA Africa, the event saw the Phoenix Suns (Soweto Basketball Club) and the Utah Jazz (Kagiso Basketball Club) emerge as the 2024 champions in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, respectively.

The Suns clinched victory against the Brooklyn Nets (St Stithians College), while the Jazz secured their win over the Charlotte Hornets (Sandton Hornets) in what was a day filled with skillful play and determination.
Key players from both winning teams, Tinyiko Maseko from the Suns and Omphemetse Gasietsiwe from the Jazz were recognised for their outstanding performances, earning the titles of Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the boys’ and girls’ leagues respectively.

Since its inception in 2016, the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA League Johannesburg has grown significantly, with this year’s season involving more than 1 500 participants from across the city.
Young athletes not only competed in league games but also took part in clinics, enhancing their skills and sportsmanship.
As the league continues to expand its footprint in South Africa, its efforts to inspire and develop future basketball stars are bearing fruit, contributing to the growth of the sport in communities around Johannesburg.
