Video: Shooting at Sandton restaurant

Video footage from the shooting sees patrons running and ducking for their lives as gunshots fill the restaurant.

Video footage has gone viral with gunshots heard at the deadly event that took place at Solo Sandton, where three people have died and four others injured.

The shooting, on March 6, shocked the normally lively and bustling nightlife in Sandton.

South African Police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting. She said, “The man with a firearm wanted to enter the restaurant, which has a no firearm policy, and that is when the altercation started, leading to a shooting between the man’s bodyguards and security guards.”

Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on the scene. At the same time, five victims (the shooter, two patrons, a Community Policing Forum (CPF) member and a security guard) were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries and the shooter succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

According to the Sandton CPF, the member who responded to the scene was shot must is recovering in hospital.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man who started this has previously been arrested for a shooting incident also in Sandton last year. No one has been arrested and police investigations continue,” Col Nevhuhulwi added.

The man who initiated the shooting is a wellknow, who was involved in a shooting at Tempo’s last year.
