Three killed, four injured in Sandton restaurant shooting

Police have confirmed the shooting at a Sandton restaurant.

The man who tried to enter the Solo restaurant in Sandton with a firearm was arrested last year in January for a similar reason.

What happened?

The normally lively and bustling nightlife in Sandton turned deadly last night after gunshots rang out at Solo restaurant (March 6).

Authorities reported that shots were fired at the corner of Gwen Lane and Fredman Drive around 23:30.

South African Police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting. She said, “Reportedly, a man with a firearm wanted to enter the restaurant, which has a no firearm policy, and that is when the altercation started, leading to a shooting between the man’s bodyguards and security guards.”

Solo releases a statement

The management of Solo restaurnt relesed a statement on March 7.

Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on the scene. At the same time, five victims (the shooter, two patrons, a Community Policing Forum member and a security guard) were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries and the shooter succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

According to the Sandton CPF, the member who responded to the scene was shot must is recovering in hospital.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man who started this has previously been arrested for a shooting incident also in Sandton last year. No one has been arrested and police investigations continue,” Col Nevhuhulwi added.
