New Brescia House deputy head girl hopes to revive school pride and unity between grades

Guided by Brescia’s Serviam ethos, deputy head girl for 2026 Adwoa Fosu hopes to foster stronger connections between grades, celebrate Catholic values, and build a culture of positivity and support.

Having been part of the Brescia House community since Grade R, Adwoa Fosu’s journey has been deeply intertwined with the school’s values and traditions.

Growing up with her older sister also attending Brescia, Adwoa has spent most of her life immersed in the school’s vibrant culture, one that she describes as unique and special, due to its strong Catholic foundation and close-knit community.

Over the years, Adwoa has excelled, both in and out of the classroom, participating in a range of sports, before committing herself primarily to hockey and tennis.

Beyond athletics, she has found her voice as an active member of the school’s public speaking club, where she continues to hone her confidence and communication skills, qualities she now brings into her leadership journey.

When asked about her reaction to the announcement of her appointment as the school’s deputy head girl for 2026, Adwoa recalls being overwhelmed with emotion.

“I felt shock and disbelief when my name was announced. I cried because of the rush of emotions, honour, confusion, and joy.” For Adwoa, leadership has never been about the title. Instead, she has always aspired to make a positive impact on those around her.

“To be a positive influence on as many people as possible has always been a goal and aspiration of mine, but to have a title and formalised job, not so much.”

As she steps into her role, Adwoa envisions fostering stronger connections between grades, and revitalising school pride.

“I want to change the perception of school spirit and pride. As a small Catholic school, we can sometimes be overlooked, but our size, and our Catholic values, are what make our community so special.”

She hopes to inspire her peers to see that when you change your attitude, you change the atmosphere around you, and to embrace Brescia’s ethos of Serviam, I will serve. “Serviam is in our daily lives.

We open doors for one another, ask how we’re doing, and offer assistance. Living with a I will serve mentality doesn’t have to be in drastic ways. It’s often the small things that build a greater sense of family.”

Adwoa is committed to a leadership style rooted in inclusivity and collaboration.

She plans to work closely with both teachers and students, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued. “The changes I’d like to see rely on mass participation. People must feel their views are welcomed and respected.

“I want to be remembered as a leader who genuinely cared for her community and supported others to reach greater levels of success. I want Brescia to remember that enjoyment and fun are not separate from achievement.”

As she prepares for her matric year, Adwoa also looks forward to developing key life skills.

“I hope to improve my ability to balance tasks and activities among social responsibilities. This is particularly important for the real world, especially as I begin to consider the profession I’d like to pursue after Brescia.”
