Communities hold the key to cleaner, safer suburbs
Bea Campbell-Cloete calls on residents to work together to improve their suburbs.
If you have been in Joburg North for the past 10 years, you know and can feel the change happening around you.
According to Bea Campbell-Cloete, the DA candidate for Ward 102, the suburbs are changing, and not for the better.

She said overgrown public spaces, blocked stormwater drains, and illegal dumping have become common across the area.
“These issues affect how our neighbourhoods look, but also how safe and healthy they are.”
Campbell-Cloete believed the City of Johannesburg was falling behind.
“Residents are paying for services, but basic maintenance is often not being done.”
Despite this, she added that communities were showing leadership.
“Initiatives like Better Bryanston demonstrate what is possible when residents come together.”
She said that residents’ associations and community groups have transformed neglected spaces into clean, usable areas.

“Residents and neighbouring suburbs now enjoy these spaces. The contrast is clear. Suburbs with active community involvement look and feel very different from those without it.”
“People cannot wait while their suburbs decline and risks grow. These efforts help bridge gaps and improve response times. But just as importantly, they restore pride and a sense of ownership,” adding that communities should not replace the city.
Campbell-Cloete has called on residents, NPOs, residents’ associations, and community groups across Bryanston, Sandton, and Ward 102 to work together.
“Reach out to me so that we can take hands in rebuilding our neighbourhoods. Our suburbs can be beautiful spaces again. If we work together, we can make that happen.”
