Here’s why Buccleuch interchange is closed

Three suspects have reportedly been shot dead following a police pursuit at the Buccleuch interchange.

A section of the Buccleuch interchange in Sandton is closed on June 25 following a shooting incident that left three suspects dead.

The incident, which was communicated at 14:00, led to the closure of the N1 northbound link from the N3 north at the Buccleuch interchange as authorities secured what remains an active crime scene.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that officers were aware of the incident but said the matter falls under the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“We can confirm that we are aware of it, but it is an SAPS scene, so unfortunately, we don’t have much information regarding that.

What we can confirm is that the N1 north link from the N3 north at the Buccleuch interchange is completely closed off due to that crime scene,” said Fihla.

According to crime watchdog Yusuf Abramjee’s X post, three suspects were shot dead following a chase and gun battle involving police and private security in Sandton.

Abramjee said firearms had been recovered at the scene and confirmed that the scene remained active.
