NeoKo Judo celebrates remarkable rise after winning medals at national championships
Just over a year after opening its doors, NeoKo Judo is celebrating a major milestone after its athletes returned from the National Judo Championships with 21 medals.
Founded by young entrepreneurs Koketso Rammutla and Neo Mogase-Williams, NeoKo Judo has quickly established itself as one of Johannesburg’s rising judo clubs.
In just over a year, the dojo has produced national champions, earned international medals and built a thriving community of more than 140 members.
Rammutla said seeing how far the dojo has come in such a short time has been both rewarding and motivating.
“It’s surreal to look back and see how much we have achieved in just over a year as two young African entrepreneurs. It’s extremely motivating to see what we’ve done in such a short time and know that we can achieve so much more in the future.”

The club recently competed at the National Judo Championships, where 10 athletes delivered an impressive performance.
Mogase-Williams said the team’s hard work was reflected in the results.
“The team performed exceptionally well, winning medals across different divisions. They really showed who they are, and the improvements have been phenomenal. We came home with 12 gold medals, eight silver medals and one bronze medal.”
The success builds on NeoKo Judo’s international achievements.

Since its establishment, the dojo has won five medals at African Cup tournaments hosted in South Africa, where athletes competed against opponents from across the continent and beyond.
According to Mogase-Williams, those performances have shown the athletes that their dreams are within reach.
“These achievements represent a step in the right direction for our competitive athletes. They show that their goals and dreams are achievable.”
Today, the dojo caters for more members between the ages of three and 60, offering opportunities for children and adults to learn and compete in judo.
