Representative of Bryanston Sports Club addresses City Power issue

General manager of Bryanston Sports Club, Pat Carolin, assures residents that the club is working very closely with City Power to resolve what they maintain is an error in the amount they allegedly owe the entity.

City Power has been issuing penalties to various residential complexes and business establishments all over Johannesburg.

“As part of our aggressive revenue collection drive, City Power paid a visit to several businesses and residential areas during an operation in Randburg,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.

The operation continued in Bryanston where the entity disconnected Bryanston Sports Club’s power supply around 11:30.

According to Mangena, the establishment owes the entity R2.3 million.

“We encourage customers who are in arrears to approach our service delivery centres across all regions so that arrangements can be made as we regard these operations as the last resort,” said Mangena.

The general manager of Bryanston Sports Club, Pat Carolin, addressed the matter from the perspective of the establishment.

“We have been working with City Power trying to resolve this issue. Our major frustration was that we were not served any notice of any outstanding amount, or invoices and we were not provided with a pre-termination notice. The account number and account name were not of the establishment. We reaffirm our commitment to working with City Power to resolve this issue in a peaceful manner,” said Carolin.

According to the general manager, the sports club faced a lot of backlash from social media users which resulted in their image being tainted.

“We need them to issue an apology for the defamation and reputational damage that they has been done to us based on the fact that we have not been in the wrong. We are a compliant club; we always pay on invoices and statements. We have never received any invoices for any of the outstanding claims,” said Carolin.

As stated by Carolin, the amount that they owe City Power does not match the amount which Mangena shared in his statement.

City Power restored the club’s power on February 13.

A Sandton Chronicle reporter contacted the spokesperson of City Power, Isaac Mangena, to address the matter of the invoices and to confirm the outstanding amount which the club owes.

Mangena was contacted on several occasions; February 16 (message), February 17 (call) and February 20 (call), but the journalist received no response.
