919FM brings home three awards at Telkom SA Radio Awards

Sandton's beloved feel-good station takes home three prestigious awards, including Best Breakfast Host for Shane Hunter and Best Afternoon Drive Show for Nicole da Silva.

In an impressive showing at the Telkom SA Radio Awards, 919FM, based in Illovo, emerged as a standout contender, winning accolades for the best breakfast show and best afternoon drive show.

The awards ceremony, held on November 30 at the Sandton Convention Centre, recognised the outstanding contributions of the station’s talent.

Breakfast on Demand host Shane Hunter was awarded best breakfast host, while Feel Good Drive host and producer Nicole da Silva celebrated her team’s achievement just before embarking on her journey into motherhood.

The station’s manager Caren du Preez said, “We are beyond ecstatic, not only to be nominated for several awards but to walk away with three of them. I want to give a special shout-out to our technical manager, Matabataba Radebe, who makes sure we’re on air and sounding good.”

Hunter, who garnered two awards, shared his excitement. “Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey. Well done to my co-host Dayle Robyn for putting up with me and coming along for the ride as well.

“As well as the lovely Maneo Motsoeneng who has taken care of news alongside me since the beginning. Here’s to making Breakfast on Demand bigger, better and stronger,” Hunter added.

Da Silva, who departed from her radio role at the end of August to focus on motherhood, expressed her gratitude for the recognition.

“As the producer, presenter and traffic reader on this show, this is so cool. Thanks to my wonderful and talented news reader Ayanda Mtshali and 919FM trusting me and giving me the opportunity,” Da Silva said.

With its studio located in Illovo and broadcasting from Bryanston, 919FM proudly positions itself as Sandton’s feel-good radio station, delivering upbeat music, positive news, and inspiring stories about South Africans making a difference.

“As we like to say to our listeners, ‘Feel good anytime, all the time,’ and nothing feels as good as being honoured by the Telkom SA Radio Awards. As a community radio station, we feel humbled and gratified in knowing that we have been acknowledged by the radio industry and that we will continue to grow from strength to strength,” Du Preez added.
