Famed florist to share flower secrets at Rosebank Union Church
World-renowned garden designer Leon Kluge brings the secret to winning gold at the Chelsea Flower Show to Johannesburg north.
If you have ever wanted to see what it takes to win gold on gardening’s biggest stage, mark your calendar for July 17.
South Africa’s own Leon Kluge, the only landscape designer from Africa to win the Gardening World Cup in Japan, will share the secrets behind his award-winning displays of South African flora at the Chelsea Flower Show at a discussion at Rosebank Union Church.
In true festival style, you will even be able to buy your own Protea plants on the day, a chance to take home a piece of the world-famous display from this year’s Chelsea show.

Kluge’s journey has taken him from the Lowveld Botanical Gardens, where he grew up, to designing landscapes for Disney, the United Nations, and even spice estates on the island of Mayotte, but his passion for local flora remains at the heart of it all. A love he’s now bringing back home to inspire South Africans to see our plants in a whole new light.

This year’s exhibit at the Chelsea show was inspired by our two oceans and their rich fynbos habitats and earned the team a coveted RHS Lawrence Medal, the first time South Africa has received this honour.
To make this special talk happen, Shelley Addis, in association with U3A Johannesburg, is rallying the community to help crowdfund Kluge’s visit. Other exciting things await you, including specialised plants and accessories on sale, and more.
