South Africa’s first Marc’s by Marc Jacobs opens at Hyde Park Corner

From designer-inspired desserts to a New York-style café atmosphere, the arrival of Marc’s by Marc Jacobs introduces a fresh lifestyle experience where fashion and food meet under one roof.

Shoppers and food lovers have a new reason to visit Hyde Park Corner, with the opening of South Africa’s first Marc’s by Marc Jacobs. A café located inside the newly launched Maison Deux luxury concept store.

More than just a café, the space blends fashion, design, and dining into a single experience. Inspired by the energy of New York and the playful yet polished style associated with the global fashion house of Marc Jacobs, the café brings a distinctive lifestyle offering to Johannesburg’s luxury retail scene.
Developed by the Al Capone Group, the café was created to complement the existing Marc Jacobs retail presence in South Africa, while introducing something entirely new to the local market.

“We wanted to create a story around the brand,” representatives explained. “Marc Jacobs is known for being fun, playful, and elevated, and we felt a café would be the perfect way to bring that personality to life in a unique way.”

Every detail of the café has been carefully curated to reflect the brand’s signature aesthetic. From desserts shaped around iconic design elements to branded touches throughout the menu, the connection between fashion and food is intentional.

Guests will notice familiar motifs from the fashion house appearing in the culinary offerings. Signature elements, such as the brand’s well-known daisy design, feature on desserts and macarons, while presentation and packaging mirror the bold visual language associated with the label.

The result is an experience that feels less like a traditional restaurant and more like stepping into a lifestyle space. “Visitors to the café can expect a menu that highlights some of our most popular dishes and drinks, carefully selected to showcase the best of what our kitchen offers. We source the ingredients used in the pastries and desserts to meet the international standards, also helping deliver flavours and textures similar to those found in leading cafés overseas.”

The concept behind the café goes beyond dining. It was designed as a social hub within the retail environment, encouraging visitors to linger, explore, and enjoy the surroundings, rather than simply passing through.

Whether guests arrive for a quick coffee, a leisurely lunch, or a stylish meet-up with friends, the space aims to create a sense of occasion.

The location at Hyde Park Corner was a deliberate choice, given the centre’s long-standing reputation as a destination for luxury shopping and premium experiences.

For visitors looking for something new in Johannesburg’s dining and retail landscape, the Marc Jacobs Café offers a chance to enjoy a globally inspired experience without leaving the city.

From the design-led interiors to the carefully curated menu, the café introduces a fresh way to combine fashion, food, and lifestyle in one setting.
