Tatami Judo finds a Purist venue for their preparations

Tatami Judo members have found a new home in Bryanston.

Bryanston’s Tatami Judo team has relocated from Bryanston Primary School to the Purist training facility at the Bryanston Decathlon Centre.

“The move was after nationals,” said Sensei Basil Smith – the third-Dan black belt Judoka who facilitates the Tatami Judo team. “I feel the [relocation] was necessary to stand out as one of the best clubs in the country.”

According to Smith, the Tatami Judo team has done well this year, bringing home a total of 15 medals from two championship opportunities hosted in Qheberha between July and August.

“We sent a contingency of 12 Judoka to the South African Judo championships held from July 5 – 7; [they] brought home to Tatami a total of 8 medals,” said Smith.

A month later, from August 3 – 6, Tatami participated in the Commonwealth judo championships which drew participation from over 250 judoka from 20 countries competing across various categories.
