Local lad makes Orlando Pirates debut at 16

SEBOKENG. – Vaal youngster Augustine Mahlonoko (16) made history when he made his professional debut for Orlando Pirates’ senior team against Highlands Park over the weekend.
This Sebokeng-based young superstar came in as a sub when Pirates played a 1 – all draw against Highlands Park in the opening match of the 2018/19 season at Orlando Stadium over the weekend. Many describe the youngster as the future of Orlando Pirates and a fans’ darling.
Although he came in with just three minutes laft on the clock Mahlonoko looked comfortable in his new surroundings. Mohlonoko’s rose to stardom when he played for the Orlando Pirates U/17 team in the Gauteng Future Champs Tournament recently. Speaking to the media after the game, Mahlonoko said it was a dream debut for him and that it was a miracle he was not overwhelmed by the big occasion.
“I was delighted to make my professional debut, especially for a big team like Orlando Pirates. I was not nervous at all because the coaching staff and senior players told me not to stress too much about the game,” said the young star.
