10-year-old boy goes missing fearing punishment from parent

"One of the children reportedly ran away, fearing punishment for walking around alone."

SEBOKENG.- The Sebokeng police are appealing to members of the public for assistance in locating Tshegofatso Mkhwanazi (10), who was reported missing on October 25.

It is alleged that on October 24, Tshegofatso’s mother was at home when her children were brought back by an unknown male. He informed her that he had found the children along Fochville Road, near Radipeo Primary School.

A few minutes later, the children’s father arrived, and one of the children reportedly ran away, fearing punishment for walking around alone.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, said that the family searched for Tshegofatso but could not locate him, prompting them to report the matter to the police.

At the time of disappearance, Tshegofatso was wearing a grey t-shirt, blue cap and black shorts.

Sebokeng SAPS urges anyone who may have seen Tshegofatso or has information that could assist in tracing him to come forward.

“Even seemingly minor information may help the police locate the missing child and reunite him with his family. The public is also reminded that there is no waiting period before reporting a person missing. A missing person should be reported to the police immediately once there is genuine concern about their whereabouts. There is no need to wait 24 or 48 hours before opening a missing-person report,” Mokhachane said.

Meanwhile, parents and caregivers are encouraged to teach children about personal safety, ensure that children know how to contact their families, and report a child’s disappearance without delay.

Anyone with information that may assist in locating Tshegofatso Mkhwanazi is requested to contact Sebokeng SAPS on 016 466 2047 or 082 498 9563. Alternatively, contact the police on 112, 10111, or 08600 10111, alternatively via MySAPS App.
