Volleyball games revived

"This event allowed us to promote mass participation, instill positive and healthy lifestyle choices."

SEBOKENG.- It was action galore when local volleyball clubs participated in the Volleyball Revival Games at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng recently.

These revival games were part of reviving volleyball in the Sedibeng community. It was exciting games to watch from both ladies’ and gents’ teams with u/13 also forming part of the games.

These games were organised by Jeff Monnakgotla, together with Costa Mqwathi with the main objective to bring back volleyball to its former glory. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Monnakgotla who has been involved in volleyball development both in Gauteng and the Free State for more than 20 years, hailed these revival games as a great success.

The tournament saw teams as far as Heidelberg, Midvaal, Evaton, Vereeniging, Sharpeville, Boipatong and Bophelong come together to compete against each other. Monnakgotla told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he was overwhelmed by the positive response from the local and outside volleyball teams.

“We saw it fit to organise these games to make the community of Sedibeng aware and begin to gather all those interested in playing, officiating, administering, and supporting this sport to come forward so that we can work together in bringing vibrancy in our Sedibeng region.”

“This event allowed us to promote mass participation, instill positive and healthy lifestyle choices, and present an alternative to the social ills prevalent in society today. We also want to thank the officials from the Department Of Sport, Art, Culture, and Recreation for their support and showing interest,” said Monnakgotla who is also a member of the Sedibeng Volleyball Union Federation.

Monnakgotla further told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they intend to initiate an action-packed volleyball program that will see volleyball being played in all the major areas around Sedibeng. He said the program will include volleyball league games, volleyball tournaments, clinics, workshops, and even special general meetings with all stakeholders.
