A 12-year-old girl was left critically injured this afternoon when she was hit by a taxi at the 5th and 3rd Road intersection in Roodepoort North.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found a young female child lying on the side of the road with her mother and sister, seated nearby.
On assessment, paramedics discovered that the child had sustained numerous serious injuries, leaving her in a critical condition.
Paramedics immediately began their treatment as well as providing the patient with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, a private medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient to Baragwanath Hospital for urgent treatment.
The mother and sister were assessed by paramedics and found to be uninjured.
It is believed that the driver of the taxi failed to notice the three crossing the road.
Local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.
