One man was killed and another two injured this morning after a bakki9e and light motor vehicle collided head-on on The N11, 5km outside of Middelburg in Mpumalanga.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene in the early hours of this morning and found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

On inspection, paramedics found the driver lying trapped inside his light motor vehicle, showing no signs of life. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on scene.

Two other occupants who were driving the light motor vehicle were assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries. Paramedics treated both these patients and thereafter transported them to a provincial hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the bakkie was assessed and was found to have escaped injury.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the deceased body from the light motor vehicle.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
