SEBOKENG. – Police found themselves in a fistfight with a motorist in Zone 10 last Friday.

The apparently drunk motorist is said to have hit and killed a pedestrian on the sidewalk on Friday afternoon. The driver, whose car carried three passengers – two women and another man – killed a Lesotho woman estimated to be in her late 20’s. She was on the sidewalk. The two female passengers ran way. An oncoming driver stopped the escaping suspect’s car a few kilometers from the lifeless body of a woman known as Matau. Police were also deployed to the scene, where all hell broke loose. The alleged drunk driver swung his fists at police officers.

Witnesses reported that four people were in the car when it hit and killed the pedestrian on the sidewalk. It is alleged that the driver did not have a drivers licence. Another motorist said the car was swerving left and right before it hit the woman on the sidewalk. The woman was walking home from work. She leaves behind her husband and a 4-year-old boy.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Teboho Lephoto confirmed that a case of culpable homicide and drunk driving has been opened. “The suspect was detained,” said Lephoto.
