Vaal Dam: What is the current water level?

VAAL TRIANGLE. - For the next 18 days the Water and Sanitation Department will continue to draw water from the Sterkfontein Dam in order to protect the 25% minimum level of the Vaal Dam.

The water that has been released from the Sterkfontein Dam has started to reach the Vaal Dam. Together with the recent rainfall the water levels of the Vaal Dam increased to 34% on November 24.
The Vaal river system consists of 14 dams, mainly servicing Gauteng, with at least 13 million users.
“We’ll continue with that release for the next 19 days. However, we’ll continue to monitor the system. We’ll continue to ensure that the release is still necessary and should we get more rainfall that gives us some surety, we’ll start considering maybe pulling back a bit or reducing the release,” said Mlimandela Ndamase of the Department of Water and Sanitation.
