Funda says the two, had been part of a group  attending a celebration at a park situated next to the Vaal River, Three Rivers.

“It is said that the two males, believed to be friends were swimming in the river and then got out.

“One of them went back in again, when his friend did not see him emerge he went into the river to try and look for him, sadly both of them drowned.”

Funda says their bodies were recovered the following day by divers. One deceased is from the Free-state while the other one if from Lesotho.

“We would like to advise members of the community who visit the river either for leisure or to perform rituals against swimming in the river as it is dangerous.”

Funda adds that an inquest into the deaths has been launched.
