Khawe urges community to register to vote

VEREENIGING.-Emfuleni Local Municipality(ELM) Executive Mayor, Jacob Khawe visited The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Vereeniging last week to determine the IEC’s readiness for the upcoming voter registration project.

Khawe also engaged IEC Officials and also tried to find ways to assist in the readiness of the people of Emfuleni for this year’s voter registration weekend.In his engagement with officials, khawe applauded the IEC for its innovative ways to effectively shorten ques at registration centers by introducing on-line registration.

Voters are reminded to take their green bar-coded identification (ID) book, or smart ID card or valid temporary ID certificate to their voting stations this weekend. They will be assisted to complete a registration form providing their home address at which they ordinarily reside which will allow the Electoral Commission to place them in the correct voting district. Proof of residence is not required.
