Theft of motor vehicles on the rise in Vanderbijlpark

"There are a few reports where vehicles are stolen inside the garage. Vehicles are also stolen at schools when there are school activities, at different churches and in our CBD."

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The police in Vanderbijlpark are concerned about the increasing theft of motor vehicles.  According to police spokesperson sergeant Gertrude Makhale,  police learned through the crime analysis that most cars were getting stolen at households, including flats where cars are either parked inside the yard or in the drive way.

“There are a few reports where vehicles are stolen inside the garage. Vehicles are  also stolen at schools when there are school activities, at different churches and in our CBD.” Makhale said among stolen vehicles, Toyota’s are the leading brand, followed by Ford rangers, VW, Mazda and Nissans. Makhale added that it was very important for members of the community to put safety measure in place in order to keep their cars safe.

“If you see any suspicious vehicles or people in your vicinity, call the police or your Sector vehicle, let us not put colour or the way people are dressed with crime. Criminals now are using even expensive vehicles to commit crime as you will not suspect presentable men and women to commit any crime.  Gender, colour and age is not associated with crime, be alert at all times safety comes first.” Makhale concludes.
