VEREENIGING. – The case of R800 000 worth of illegal cigarettes confiscated by Police in Arcon Park on May 11 has been withdrawn. This is in spite of numerous photographs being taken of large boxes being loaded onto Police vehicles. The case was withdrawn for lack of evidence.

This is according to the suspects’ defence lawyer, Jaco van Heerden of BMH Attorneys. Van Heerden said that the matter was withdrawn as the cigarettes were found to be legal and in compliance with all relevant legislation.

Van Heerden also said that the police acted without a warrant and on unreliable information.“We will now proceed to exercise our legal options with regards to a civil claim.
