SEDIBENG.- The South African Communist Party Vaal District (SACP) has told the African National Congress (ANC) not to relax after the recent national elections.
The District Executive Committee (DEC) recently made this known during their meeting in Vereeniging. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster the SACP Vaal District Secretary, Thembinkosi Pulu said that they are pleased by the voting contribution of the working class in Sedibeng ‘in saving the movement’ and that this has reaffirmed that Sedibeng remains the home of the ANC.
“We appreciate the working class in the district who voted for the ANC irrespective of the material conditions they find themselves in, as far as service delivery is concerned. The working class in our district refuse to punish the ANC due lack of service delivery by the municipality.
“The DEC calls on the ANC in the district not to be too comfortable with the election results.
“These results are just an indication that the congress movement should strengthen and work with Emfuleni Local Municipality, especially with the Executive Mayor, Moruti Moerane in his efforts to build a strong institution that is capable of delivering services to the people of Emfuleni,” Pulu said.
He further added that as part of preparing for the 2021 local elections, the SACP believes in the leadership of Moerane as the executive mayor and reaffirms its support to his leadership.
“We call on the ANC RTT to focus on its task and stop trying and interfering with Emfuleni issues.
“The Regional Task Team (RTT) should stop trying to macro manage the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni.”
Pulu said they are raising the above issue because while others were busy with the national elections campaign, some within that RTT were busy convening with the mayor and his administration in trying to persuade them to do thing according to their wishes. “As a party we disappointedly noted the letters that were written to the Provincial structure of the ANC by some amongst the RTT calling for the removal of both the Municipal Manager (MM) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Emfuleni Local Municipality. We are further disappointed by the proposal to reshuffle, while the alliance was never consulted.
This RTT is starting to impose factional decisions in Emfuleni, a posture we view as challenging.
We believe that Emfuleni is where it is today not only by the lack of payments of services by the communities, but also by the little income that was looted to fight factional battles within the ANC.”
