Brides-to-be are often overwhelmed by the endless options when it comes to choosing a wedding dress. Where do you start, what are the current fashion trends and which style will suit you best?

A good starting point is to take a look at your wedding budget and set an amount you are willing to spend on your gown. Secondly, take the advice of an expert to heart.

One such an expert is Jacqueline Haratsidis (26), a qualified fashion designer from the Vaal Triangle.

After matriculating at Hoërskool Drie Riviere in Vereeniging, Jacqueline studied at Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for four years, and completed her diploma and Btech in Fashion Design. In her third year she got the opportunity to intern at ELLE magazine and work with internationally renowned fashion designer and reality TV star David Tlale. “These were moments I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” says Jacqueline. During her fourth year she met her partner Kgomoco, where they collaborated and opened House of JM Designs. Their business has been running for over four years and is growing each day. “My motto in life is: ‘Dreams don’t work unless you do’. My dream for House of JM Designs is to become the best-known fashion house in the Vaal and surrounding areas,” says Jacqueline.

Some of the 2019 wedding dress trends include a lot of romantic styles, says Jacqueline. “Dresses that are soft and flowy, with beautifully hand beaded embroidered lace, as well as plain fitted dresses, like Meghan Markle’s, with extravagant long trains and veils. Brides are in love with off-shoulder and drop sleeves. If it’s not flaunting their shoulders, then it’s a beautiful low back.”

She says it is important to know which trends are in fashion, however it is even more important to know what suits your figure.

“It doesn’t help mermaid style is in fashion yet you have an apple shaped body.

It is therefore necessary to learn what body shape you are and what dresses will emphasize the right places,” is Jacqueline’s advice.
