Midvaal Hospital celebrates true spirit of Mandela Day

Midvaal Private Hospital celebrated Mandela Day in many different ways this year.

VEREENIGING. – Midvaal Private Hospital celebrated Mandela Day in many different ways this year.

The Sedibeng Children’s Haven has been the hospital’s beneficiary for many years. This year the hospital aimed at equipping the haven with a music room.

“The children are desperate for musical exposure and we believe that providing them with access to music and instruments will provide meaningful and therapeutic exposure to them,” says Ms Hettie Fowlds from Midvaal Private Hospital’s Client Services Department.

“When the children are taken into the haven, they usually come out of dire circumstances. We were overwhelmed by contributions of instruments. We would especially like to thank Milton Primary School for making the largest contribution. We sent a team of hospital employee-volunteers that spent Mandela Day at the haven. They decorated the room by painting music-related images on the walls. Pipex fixed the leak in the roof and will be tiling out the music room. Benri Blinds already donated and installed brand new blinds for the music room. Thanks to monetary donations we were also able to install a netball ring, buy netball and soccer balls as well as a swing ball for the children to play outside. ESM Maintenance is currently installing a new washing line for the haven,” says Ms Fowlds.

The second part of the hospital’s Mandela Day project was to collect at least 67 bags of dog and cat food as well as blankets for an animal shelter.

“Again, we were overwhelmed with donations, and once again the largest contributor to the project was Milton Primary School. They raised funds among the children and donated a large amount of dog food. We visited Vaal Pets on the Monday where over 200 dogs are currently kept. We are pleased to say that we managed to collect over 300kg of dog and cat food and at least three large bags of blankets.

“We would like to thank every single person who made a contribution, whether big or small, as well as these institutions for their support: Ampath laboratories, Benri Blinds, Dr NJ Prinsloo’s Practice, ESM Maintenance, Fowlds Photography, Midvaal Private Hospital’s staff and families, Midvaal Pharmacy, Milton Primary School, Pathcare Laboratories and Pipex.”
