DA to closely monitor recently appointed senior managers in Metsimaholo municipality

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will exercise its oversight function over the recently appointed senior managers in Metsimaholo municipality without fear or favour, and ensure that service delivery is restored to all residents as a matter of urgency.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will exercise its oversight function over the recently appointed senior managers in Metsimaholo municipality without fear or favour, and ensure that service delivery is restored to all residents as a matter of urgency.
Despite DA rejections to the secondment of senior managers from the Provincial government to the Metsimaholo municipality, under the Capacity and Enhancement Support (CES) provision, council proceeded to appoint them in an acting capacity.
In a special council meeting held on Monday (October 21, 2019), the municipality met to discuss the CES from the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) and the appointment of senior managers in terms of Section 154 of the Constitution.
“Of major concern to the DA was that the MEC was vague in giving details and terms and reference points regarding this support,” says Cllr Thulani Mbana, a DA Councillor in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality.
Nonetheless, in the interests of service delivery, the DA says it resolved to play its role in monitoring the performance of individuals appointed to the following roles:
• Acting Municipal Manager: Mr. Sello Mokoena
• Acting Chief Financial Officer: Mr. Clive Scheepers
• Acting Director for Social Services: Mr. Ramotso
• Acting Director Local Economic Development: Ms. Tshidi Mokhefa
• Acting Director Technical Services: Ms. Maria Ramovha
• Acting Director of Cooperate Governance: Mr. Moholi
“The DA would like to state categorically that we rejected the appointment of the Acting Director

Technical Services as a result of reports and her performance during her tenure as Acting Municipal Manager. The DA will be watching closely as the process of Capacity Enhancement Support unfold. We will continue to fight that the council remains functional,” says Mbana.
“We are hopeful that these appointments will speed up services in the Municipality. We insist that the municipal funds be directed to service delivery and provide good services to our people. The Democratic Alliance in Metsimaholo will continue to fight for the rights of people and engage wherever is necessary to ensure that people of the municipality receive services due to them.”
