The production house is under the leadership of the legendary playwriter and director, Psalm ‘Skhwenene’ Dlamini who is the product of acclaimed directors and writers such as the late Gibson Kente, John ‘Moalosi’ Ledwaba and Aupa Kula to mention a few. Dlamini has also worked with the late Nyembezi Kunene, the late Arms Seutloadi, Abey Maeyane and Nzimeni Herembi. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Dlamini said that ‘Below the belt’ is a new theatre production paying tribute to black South Africans and is inspired by the conflicts faced at the time where black people were required to carry ‘Dompasses’ during the apartheid era. “It is a piece inspired by real life experiences, motivated by political situations. The play is more relevant
today because we face a political organizational crisis which have no interests for the poor people. It shows oppression at its very peak.”
Dlamini said that the requirements of the audition are acting, singing and dancing.
The chosen artists will be required to undergo a period of one week training with special art practitioners of high profiles in the industry. The requirements plan is that a person should prepare a monologue for acting, dancing movements and one song that is no less than ten minutes.
