Burst pipe as a result of aging infrastructure

Radebe further reported that in a space of a month, the municipality had attended to 3 pipe bursts in Telford Road.

VEREENIGING. – The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) reports that the bursting of pipes in Telford Road, Duncanville, are a result of aged infrastructure.

ELM Media Liaison Officer, Chuchi Radebe says: “The municipality has noted the Telford Road pipe burst and is attending to it. It is suspected that the pipe burst is due to the aging infrastructure. The asbestos pipeline in Telford Road has reached its maximum lifespan. The Vereeniging Water Team is replacing the old asbestos line with a PVC pipe, with each reported burst.”

Radebe further reported that in a space of a month, the municipality had attended to 3 pipe bursts in Telford Road.

Radebe said that the water team had been delayed after having to attend to other pipe bursts in residential areas that were reported prior the Telford Road one.

“Most of the pipe bursts were due to fibre installation currently underway in Waldrift and Three Rivers.

“The team is currently on site working on the second burst that occurred on Wednesday. The team will be replacing the damaged 12m of the 160mm pipeline. Water to the isolated 30% of businesses in Telford Road will be restored soon after.”
