WATCH: Angry residents demand to speak to mayor

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Angry residents assembled at the Riverspray Complex on Sunday evening and demanded to speak to the executive mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, Reverend Gift Moerane.

This follows after the residential address of the mayor was leaked on a community WhatsApp group.

It is further alleged that a group of residents managed to disconnect the power to the Riverspray Complex after which rubber bullets were fired by the police.

The protest action follows after residents of Sonlandpark and Falcon Ridge were plunged into darkness again over the weekend. Power failures are a regular occurrence in these neighbourhoods and on two separate occasions earlier this year residents have barricaded Old Johannesburg Road with branches and burning tyres.

Sedibeng Ster reporter Lazarus Dithagiso who attended the scene said there was a police presence as residents waited for the MMC for infrastructure, Bheki Ntsele, to address the masses gathered outside the residence.

Later in the evening the MMC said that he would meet with residents in Falcon Ridge on Monday at 17:00.
