Put an end to the ‘slaughter’ of women
Police vehicles should be visible and police must continuously carry out foot patrols.

BOPHELONG. – The acting Station Commander of the Vanderbijlpark Police Station, Colonel Mongezi Gulashe, appealed to the community and all non-profit organizations to work together with the police to fight crime. Gulashe said that the police and law enforcement agencies cannot fight crime alone.
Gulashe was speaking after receiving a copy of a memorandum handed by the Vanderbijlpark Trauma Counselling Empowerment Centre at the Vanderbijlpark Police Station last week.

The Trauma Centre members were joined by Indibano Empowerment, Dirang ka kagiso, Bontate ba Kopane Forum and Sello sa Basadi organizations. Gulashe further said the NPOs concerns are also the police’s concerns.
“Let’s us all walk the talk and stop opening a criminal case, especially on gender-based violence, and while police are busy with the investigations, the victim decides to withdraw the case. On the other hand, when police arrest people on the streets for being under the influence of alcohol, the community say they are being harassed,” said Gulashe. George Sibanda, Chief Executive Officer of the Trauma Centre said that ‘slaughter’ of the women and children must come to an end. He said police vehicles should be visible and that police must continuously carry out foot patrols.
