Community urged to avoid walking through cemetery as it becomes a crime hotspot

Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango says, “We would like to urge members of the community to refrain from using that route more especially in the morning and when it starts to get dark. "

SHARPEVILLE. – The Sharpeville SAPS are on hunt for a suspect/suspects terrorising the community travelling through the Vuka cemetery.

Police currently have three case dockets of murder, attempted murder and robbery with a firearm respectively. All incidents  took place during the month of May at the Vuka cemetery.

Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango says, “We would like to urge members of the community to refrain from using that route more especially in the morning and when it starts to get dark.

“We have intensified patrols in the area and also engaged the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) with the possibility of cleaning up the area so there is no place for thugs to hide.”

Sango said it’s very important for the community to work together with the police to ensure that whoever is responsible for these incidents is arrested.

“Investigations in these cases are ongoing.”
