Power outages: Did ELM fail to pay Eskom again?

Cllr Elize Aucamp of the DA has revealed information that Eskom would reduce the load to certain areas in die Vaal as ELM has failed to pay Eskom.

On Thursday evening (10/06/2021) Cllr Elize Aucamp of the DA received information from a reliable source that Eskom would reduce the load to Eskom 5 which feeds Sonlandpark, Falconridge, Houtkop plots and the Amanzimtoti Randwater Pumpstation which is again supplying water to Vanderbijlpark and various surrounding areas.

The information regarding this was send to Emfuleni by Cllr Aucamp but it couldn’t be confirmed by Emfuleni, but this morning Eskom confirmed the information and the reason for reduction was due to Emfuleni failing to pay Eskom.

“These power failures does not only put pressure on businesses who already face challenges in a very difficult economic environment. But it also affects students who are writing online exams, residents working from home, the many old age homes in Sonlandpark, residents who suffer from diabetes and our residents who suffer from Covid-19 and are relying on oxygen machines,” says Cllr Aucamp.

She concluded her statement by saying that while Administrators post statements that they’re bringing positive change to Emfuleni, the opposite is seen with residents being left in the dark again.
