Bophelong youth commemorates Youth Month in style

"The country needs the youth but there’s nothing to offer them.”

BOPHELONG. – About four decades ago, the youth felt that better changes in their lives were too far to reach. The Bophelong Service Delivery, under the banner of the Solidarity Community Association, says there’s nothing much to celebrate as long as the youth are trapped in poverty due to the high rate of unemployment. In an exclusive interview with the Sedibeng Ster, the organisation’s Nelly Mokhethi said they have tried to organise youth under one roof to commemorate the history of June 1976. Mokhethi said that this was an important month for the youth to know their background, and that most of the youth seem to have lost momentum and focused more on drugs and substances abuse. “Our youth are consumed by substance abuse. The country needs the youth but there’s nothing to offer them,” she adds. She further said that the government needs to invest more in the youth. “It’s already 46 years down the line but still there’s little changes. Perseverance, commitment and hard work can take this country far.”
