A man in his 40s was left critically injured following a collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle on the R549 in Deneysville yesterday afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene after 15:00 to find another service already in attendance. A light motor vehicle was found on the side of the road with the driver lying trapped inside.

Midvaal Fire Services had to use specialised equipment to free the man from the car. Once released, medics assessed the man and found that he was in a critical condition. The man was treated and provided advanced life support before he was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a private hospital for urgent care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
