Police destroy illegal initiation schools

The South African Police Service Sedibeng District Task Team demolished at least five initiation schools operating illegally in the area last week.

SEDIBENG. -Led by Captain Paul Moloi, working together with Sedibeng District Initiation Committee Chairperson, Spinnar Mofokeng, the task team arrived at the initiation schools on 15 December following a positive information and asked for documents that allow the operation of such schools, and none were provided.

Moloi said that much to their surprise, they realised that most of the boys were under age.

Police destroyed the self made shacks at De Deur on 15 December.

 Some were between 14 and 17- years -old. The police destroyed the schools by setting them on fire.

The children were all transferred to the nearest hospital and clinics for medical check-ups. The ‘teachers’ of the schools were arrested.

Police said they visited the N1 near Poortjie, ‘Ditoreng’ in Sebokeng and De Deur.
