SEDIBENG. – Police Spokesperson Constable Maria Letsele reports that the Sedibeng District Initiation Schools Task Team has embarked on a search for illegal initiation schools around the region.
“Two illegal initiation schools for both males and females have been closed down.”
Letsele states that the first group of initiates comprising 78 female initiates were found at Welgevonden Road next to N1.
“All the females were sent home without injuries while 14 male initiates were also rescued unharmed from Golden Gardens in Sebokeng.”
The operations emanate from a high number of missing children cases reported since the beginning of the festive season which is also known to be “initiation season”.
Both illegal initiation schools were burnt down. Four suspects were arrested and will make an appearance at the Vereeniging Magistrate Court for failure to produce valid initiation school permits.
