Young quadriplegic needs help

“It is Human Rights Month, but the boy is suffering."

SASOLBURG.- As if being a quadriplegic isn’t enough, young Gift Mokoena’s life is a misery.

The 19-year-old boy’s mother, Mmamokoena Mokoena from Amelia in Sasolburg has apparently been sent from pillar to post when applying for his grant because his mother’s identity document (ID) has been blocked by the Department of Home Affairs. The young man can not talk, is in a wheelchair and wears diapers like a small child.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster,Peter Motloung, the Chairperson of the All in One Disability Association who is helping with Mokoena’s case said that all they want as an association is for the boy to receive help from the Social Development Department so that he can receive a grant as this will go a long way in making both the child and the parents’ life easier.

“It is Human Rights Month, but the boy is suffering. There are no rights for him and his mother. The government is ignoring his plight. As much as we want to help him, we need to raise funds so he will be able to live a better life, since it seems as though he will never get the papers he needs to receive a grant,” Motloung said.

Anyone who wants to help can call the boy’s mother on 062 3235
