Eskom announces Stage 2 power cuts

Due to the continued shortage of generation capacity Eskom has announced that it will implement Stage 2 blackouts from 17:00 this afternoon.

In a statement the power utility said loadshedding will then be suspended at 05:00 on Wednesday.

“Eskom would like to inform the public that this constrained supply situation will persist throughout the week, with the possibility that more loadshedding is likely to be implemented should the generation capacity deteriorate further.”

The power utility says unit 5 of Medupi Powe4r Station returned to service during the night.

“Three generating units at the Camden Power Station tripped during the night, contributing to the current shortage of capacity. Eskom teams are working hard to return as many of these units to service as possible.”
