ZAMDELA – And this was evident in the eyes of elders from Letsoho La None in Sasolburg.
This is after Emerald Resort and Casino and their partners renovated and installed alarm systems at the center in Zamdela.
According to Tanuja Gangabishun, a Marketing Executive at Emerald, the center came to Emerald’s attention through Lusa Community Chest.
“While Emerald settled the bill for the renovations, their business partners offered a 50% discount, resulting in refurbishments of more than R200 000.
“We strive to uplift and empower communities such as Letsoho La None. We would like to thank our business partners in this project, who without a moment’s hesitation, joined the Emerald to lend a hand”, said Gangabishun.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Chairperson of the home, Dikeledi Makgema (74) said “we are overjoyed by the renovations. This is a blessing to us, since we started here this is the first time, we experience such a gift”.
Jeff Zwane, Mayor of Metsi-Maholo Local Municipality who was in attendance during the handing over of the centre, said he was proud to be part of the relaunch of the facility.
“Things were falling apart on this building and Emerald saw it fit to come and assist with renovations we seeing here today.
“This brings nothing but happiness and joy to the families that are part of this old age home that houses our elders,” he said.
Letsoho La None is a haven for senior citizens in Zamdela where elderly get together with their friends and spend time working on their crafts like sewing and knitting jerseys for the less fortunate.
The facility also has a vegetable gardening to feed those in need.
Before the renovations, the facility was plagued by collapsing ceilings, leaking plumbing and faulty electricity, which posed health and safety risks to the members. Emerald reached out to their business partners for expertise, and they all agreed enthusiastically to get involved.
Andre Du Toit and his team from All Pro took care of the interior, painting the walls and replacing the ceilings in many of the rooms.
Dung Beetle with Neil Marias, attended to the buildings plumbing requirements, ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
Neal Swanepoel from TriMatla came on board with all the electrical works, including installing a gas geyser, new solar lights and interior fittings and, simultaneously, ensuring that all the electrical connections are safe.
