More than just a hairdo: radioman, Kent Sethabela springs pupil’s confidence through free haircuts

For many years, Kent Sethabela has been giving back to the community.

EVATON – And this time, the 32-year-old took it upon himself to starting a haircut campaign as a way to boost pupils’ confidence.

The popular radio personnel from Thetha FM blessed 200 disadvantaged kids from Imfundo Primary School in Evaton with fresh fades and chiskops, not forgetting free hand braids for girl child.

Sethabela did this with the help of a number of local barbers and hairdressers.

As if this was never enough, Sethabela also invited different car clubs as a reason for them to drive for a cause.

Different clubs such as Levels Production, Vaal Royalties, Vaal G-strings, Polo Vivo Crew, Vaal German Boyz, La Familia Beemer Club among many others. Kent also invited biking clubs to join the campaign.

Different organizations and outlets such as Linzo’s Hair academy, Usizo Thuso Livestock, and Tsatsi Tseke Foundation joined the initiative.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sethabela said explained the reason for celebrating his birthday through the initiative.

“I grew up in a poor background and each time I had my hair done, I felt very confident towards life. While I thought of an initiative I can embark on as a way to celebrate my birthday, the flashbacks of my child hood came back and that’s why I decided to organize this haircut and driving for a cause campaign,” he said.

“The car and bike clubs became part of the programme as a way to also add confidence to these pupils coming from impoverished backgrounds. I know they thinking these cars they seeing their school are driven by people who come from rich backgrounds. Hearing the stories from the members of these crews, will make them leave the school knowing that, they too can reach that milestone,” he added.

Sethabela thanked all the car and biking crews who joined his initiative, including businesses and organizations who supported.

“I want to thank all crews, government officials, organizations and businesses who made it to be part of this day. Motho ke Motho ka Batho and these individuals have proved this to be true,” he said.

MMC of Community Safety Ndade Mokoena who also graced the event said “we need people like Kent. What you doing for these kids is very special. I pray that Almighty bless you more so you can extent this programme to many other schools and bring change to more kids”.
