VANDERBIJLPARK – Popularly known as Mama Radebe to many, Sibongile is the mother to ANC Sedibeng Regional Treasurer Mkhonto Radebe who is known for his philanthropist ways.
On Wednesday afternoon, March 15, Lesufi graced the family villa flanked by members of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) in the region, who sang struggle songs escorted by guerrilla chants.
Several members of the Regional Executive Committee (RET) including Regional Chairman Thulani Kunene, Velile Mkhontwana, and many others.
Former Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor Gift Moerane formed part of the pack.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster during a doorstep interview, Lesufi explained his visit.
“We are here to support the Regional Treasurer of the African National Congress, Ntate Mkhonto Radebe. He [Mkhonto] has been a phenomenal person in business, politics, and community development. When something of this nature happens, the family will be surprised that, if this person is all over working with people and then when they are faced with such bereavement no one is there, it will be disappointing.
“We are here to strengthen the family, him, and the ANC as a whole in this region. We are sharing the family’s pain and frustration. We hope Mama Radebe will indeed rest in peace. She [Mama Radebe] has played a role in the struggle, and she gave us a leader,” he said.
Meanwhile, MKMVA Sedibeng Secretary Titus Mpondo said “Mama Radebe raised many of us in the organization. Her passing is not only the loss of the Radebes but a loss for the ANC in the region. We are not here to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life”.
