Rotary Club embarks on health day testing spree

The Rotary Club in Vanderbijlpark took a health testing program to Emfuleni Primary School to help pupils, educators and the community in knowing their statuses.

VANDERBIJLPARK – The Rotary Club in Vanderbijlpark embarked on a Family Health Day program at Emfuleni Primary School recently.

Joined by several organizations and the Department of Health, dozens of pop-up health check-up stations were erected at the school to give teachers, pupils, and the community the opportunity to have their health checked.

High blood pressure, HIV status, and other health care issues are some of the tests carried out by different professional officials gathered at the school.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Rotary’s Petro Bester said the family health day program together with its partners has reached over 230,000 people by providing free health services to people in underprivileged communities.

“The partnership is recognized by the Department of Health to be of strategic importance in its fight against the ever-increasing burden of disease. The Rotary Family Health Days is a signature program of Rotarians for Family Health & AIDS Prevention (RFHA). The Action Group’s signature program promotes healthy living and disease prevention by implementing a massive, annual campaign in Southern Africa and India,” she said.

Bester appreciated the staff of Emfuleni Primary School and the Sedibeng District Health Services and volunteers for their assistance in contributing towards the success of our project.

“We are grateful to Debonairs for sponsoring pizzas for the participants of our project,” she added.

Department Head Sandy Chetty at Emfuleni said “We are honored by Rotary Club in assisting our learners and community members and educators in checking their general check-ups. These kinds of initiatives are always welcomed in helping with health and wellbeing,” she said.
